The flip is that AA EXP and Plat get access to all the premium seats on BA, excepting 1AK in F I believe.
Any Emerald is enough to get you 1AK.
I have been lucky in the past to AA at the call centre but it was a bit of a (polite) fight (I did wonder if the status has to be in the booking in a certain way to take effect, a la the problem of it not being printed on your BP properly sometimes). Still, at least they waive the first checked bag charge for OW holders for now, I suppose
