a 747 does a flare, like a Hornet
On UA 806 yesterday we came in over San Francisco seeming a bit high and fast. Just over Candlestick Park the pilot pulls the nose way up. In more than 300k miles on 747's I don't recall ever being nose-up and sinking. Didn't feel right or good. The he levelled it out and made the typical right-hand 180 to land. This seemed like a departure from the usual smooth-and-easy style of UA's elite 747 team. Is this the new method of choice for a quick bleed-off of mph, or was it just a personal quirk?
