That is incorrect; GPS is specifically allowed while flying above 10,000 ft as stated on their website:

Electronic Devices with Limited Operating Times
The following items may not be used during taxi, takeoff, landing or when the
aircraft is operating below 10,000 feet. The Inflight crew will advise you when
these items may and may not be used.

Audio/media recorders or players (CD, cassette players, MP3 players, DVD
players, digital audio players, etc.)
Electronic calculators
Electronic cameras
GPS (Global Positioning Satellite monitors)
Hand-held electronic games
Laptop computers
Pagers
Video camcorders

You may use cell phones while the aircraft is on the ground and the boarding door
is open. Once the boarding door is closed upon takeoff, all cell phones must be
turned off. Cell phones may be used once the aircraft has touched down and is
taxiing to the gate.
