taxes and fees = taxes and fares?

One thing to consider, though, even if it's actually from United/Chase. Is a "free" ticket booked using United MP miles actually "free"? Or do you still pay taxes and fees? Seems the definition of "free" is a moving target in the airline industry.
It did come in a normal United package with their typical light blue.cream colored background and artwork and return address that I get every other week or so offering a certain number of MP miles if you sign up for the United credit card. This offer was a combo of MP miles and the cruise.

I would not be cross about paying for the normal port taxes and fees per ticket. What bugged me was that "free" turned out to be the full market price for the taxes and fare, which they called "taxes and fees." Why would I want to do that? The fine print on the offer gave no indication about the amount and the person we talked to on the phone in order to accept the card reaffirmed that the cruise was free, (although of course that woman seemed like she was at a credit card call center rather than having any real understanding of anything).
