Each daily SYD rotation needs 3 aircraft totaling 6 - coincidentally the same number of aircraft on firm order. But without looking at the 2010/11 timetables who's to know!

The problem is that allowances have to be made for an engine failure AFTER V1 (the decision speed) - so the aircraft has to be able to get itself off the ground with one less engine, and this is the problem with flying twins out of hot and high fields like JNB.

Ah so range is a factor!

I think the payload (increased due to more fuel for range) is the key perhaps? The higher the payload the higher the take off speed theoretically. So whilst Dubai is possible, London would require such high speeds there would be a blow out?

Still, I wonder how hot Johannesburg is at 9pm?
