Welcome to FlyerTalk, Conch, and glad that nasty tropical storm lady didn't cause major problems in Conchland.

Unfortunately, this is a very turbulent time for the airline business - you will note the airlines are currently playing a game of hopscotch-like "fee add on," planting aircraft in the desert, cutting back flights, etc. (and still losing money.) Every one of them, except perhaps WN at the moment (their fuel hedges do not go on forever,) are desperate and trying anything that might increase revenue. This is a nasty knife fight, with about six very sick and major players - and I'd not expect more at US (in fact, I'd say US is likely to be the first to hit the ground bleeding.)

The good news is you may learn how to do your own workarounds and some airline survival skills here on FlyerTalk.
