Unhappy AA Sticks it to me, a long-time customer, through mileage upgrade fees

We have been AA frequent fliers since Day One (whenever that was). A few years ago I took an early retirement package from IBM and started working from home, drastically reducing my business travel. But we kept our AA MasterCard and continued to accumulate points as best we could. Since we rarely had enough points for two round-trip tickets, we would pay for a coach class ticket (Miami to Charlotte) and use our points for an upgrade instead. Now AA is telling us we have to fork over an additional $200 if we want to upgrade two tickets, round trip.

It just doesn't make any sense for us to stay with AA. US Airways <groan> is our second choice, so we are switching both our credit cards and our travel habits. I just hope they don't follow AA's lead!
