When I flew BKK-SYD late July on BA, I asked the crew about the rumour that BA will drop SYD. They said they haven't heard anything, but it is likely "sooner rather than later", that the Boeing 777 will operate flights to Sydney, as the Boeing 747-400 "burns too much fuel".

Question is whether BKK/SYD will be changed to B777 before the B777-300ER or afterwards. I don't think that both Sydney flights will operate with the B777-300ER - as this would take up5-6 aircraft alone.

Maintaining the 3-3-3 seating, this config is 14F, 56J, 48W, 190Y compared to 14F, 52J, 36W, 235Y on the current 52J 747, with about a 22% less fuel burn IIRC. Of course where the divider will be between W and Y is uncertain and by the time these are introduced we should have new F anyway. But it provides a useful comparison on a like-for-like basis with the 747.
I think a configuration like this is pretty much spot on. I think F would only have about 12 seats. In the same space on an SQ-777ER, there are 8 First and 8 Business seats, so I think 12 seats would be areasonable amount, with each seat not on an angle, slightly wider etc - more of an evolutionary product without losing much, if any, capacity. Maybe, WT+ may feature slightly improved legroom - which would alter the configuration slightly, but not significantly.
