I think WN does not have any agreements with other carriers to transport their pax free of charge in these situations. Even still its too bad UA didn't tell them they could purchase a full fare one way for about $100 bucks on WN and get there with time to spare...OAK customer service sucks for UA...there have been threads about this in the past.
