Hawaii - yuck. (And you'll still have to stop in AKL on the way down)

Just noticed that NZ does an LAX-RAR nonstop, but only on Sundays now. To me a much better option than Hawaii.. then you just continue on to akl and mel afterwards. They also do a non-stop to Samoa on Tuesdays from LAX. Those are probably your only other continuous southward options.
