You're wrong in this case. This particular 777 wasn't needed for anything else and that is NOT why the flight is cancelled. Again, outlook for landing in HKG was extremely poor.

And FYI - CX has just annouced that all departures and arrivals after 2pm will be cancelled (until at least 2am on Sat). CX's YYZ-HKG has diverted to ICN so flight will now arrive HKG most likely on Sat morning and AC's rescheduled flight from today is scheduled to arrive on Sat at 1030.
