And, I agree it can be done and frequently is done, but when DL sets minimum connection times, apparently, at 55 minutes for RJ to domestic mainline, their experts are telling us that failing to make the connection will happen so frequently that DL is not willing to undertake the cost of dealing with the volume of problems resulting from allowing connection times that are any tighter. As a result, DL will not sell a ticket with an illegal connection time, or even SDC an ex-ATL leg, if it's result is < MCT. I've been denied SDC with a resulting connection time of 32 minutes, even though the flights were in adjacent terminals. Standby saved the day.

Clearly, when the < MCT risk is personalized, few are comfortable with undertaking the major risk of disrupting their travel plans, with the potentially ugly consequences of a misconnect. YMMV
