As others have stated, you cannot have the PNRs combined. However, the PNRs can be linked. I've done this with an award ticket on Iberia MIA-MAD-MIA and a paid AA ticket SFO-MIA-DFW-SMF. At check-in, she'll need to advise the agent of the connecting flight and confirm her bags are checked all the way through to the final destination.
