I was sent to the first Persian Gulf War. Started out on United. Long day. I had 4 bags -- 2 were chem gear.

Back then, the airlines weren't really used to dealing with the issue. The check in agent started to question the number of bags for about half a second. Then she thought about it and simply said 'thank you for serving our country and be safe over there.'

Almost 20 years later I still remember that moment.
