I think it bears mentioning that even non-citizen/non-resident asylum seekers are given a US passport-like travel document so they can travel freely without the risk of being seized or harmed abroad via possession of their nation's passport, or their original passport being canceled.
If the idiots at DHS want to conduct an investigation around citizenship matters, they do have documents they can provide these people to travel with.
Not doing so just smacks of what a rotten, dirty agency the DHS is.
