Unfortunately you will have to go through LAX as there are no flight from SAN to NAN/SYD etc.

One other question: Are you sure that transferring SPG points for two airline tickets is a good use of those points? You will need a huge quantity of points to get the necessary miles and maybe you could use those points better for a vacation in a nice hotel?
