bumping a very old thread
Sorry to bring up an ancient thread, but this is the most relevant one I could find on the topic of not being offered the room type/bedding type one booked upon checkin.
That happened to me this week at a *wood hotel that was totally sold out. The front desk clerk actually changed my bedding type (unbeknownst to me) while I stood there at check in. I had no idea what she was doing for those 3 or 4 minutes, but I saw her scribbling notes and crossing things out on a piece of paper.....
I get up to the room and I have a room with 2 double beds when I was sure I'd booked a K room, as always. I called down to the front desk and spoke with the agent.....she says, "Oh, I thought you had booked 2 doubles! Let me see what I can do for you..." She put me on hold for 4 minutes and then advised that there were no available King rooms on site -- they were all taken.
Now this sort of thing doesn't ruin my day or week, but I was disappointed that this hotel, where I stay about once per month, screwed this up. As a long time SPG Plat, this hasn't happened to me in over ten years. Other threads have suggested that SPG corporate sees this sort of thing as an inexcusable error on the part of the hotel; I believe Marriott gives their Plats $100 on the spot if this happens.
Should I escalate this one or let it drop? Do others have experiences to report??
