I'm not an expert but my last few flights to LAX/SFO I have flown over on Saturday night. Flights have been pretty full...in fact the last time I flew on a AKL-LAX/SFO flight where I was able to nab a row of 3 to sleep on was 1998! Although that's probably indicative of me not flying that route all too often.
