I want to go from Duesseldorf, Germany to Santiago de Compostella, Spain. So LAN is definitely not a choice on the routing.

Never been on Iberia and I think it's OK to give it a try on an inner european trip. I don't want to waste my Lufthansa miles on LH and Spanair. The fare itself is just too crazy, 400Eur + in coach, two month ahead is not worth the money for me. I had thought to get there for "free" on an award. Well, we don't really have enough miles...

As far as IB sucking "in every possible way", I think you should provide evidence. Have you ever flown them? Maybe once, and your luggage was late? Or you misconnected? What?
I don't know about all that.

What is your feeling on getting an award ticket DUS-MAD and return and buy a seperate MAD-SCQ ticket? Doable? What minimum connect would you give? I guess I can check through as this would all be IB?

I might even spend the day in Madrid and go into the city. How easy is that? How much time do I need?

Unfortunately, we found out that just the holder of the IB account can get an award ticket in his name, not dad for son like in our case.

thanks for your help everybody.
