What is PAYG money?
The daily cap will apply for use on the Tube, DLR, London Overground and buses: if you travel in zones 1 and 2 off peak (after 0930 on weekdays or at any time on weekends or public holidays) the cap is £4.80, 50p less than the price of a one day off peak zones 1 and 2 Travelcard. £20 of PAYG should get you three days of off peak use in zones 1 and 2 plus the £2 fare for the trip from LHR to the Angel on the day you arrive, plus a bit of extra money on the card for the journey back to LHR.
Thanks for responding so quickly! What if I'm on the tube before 9:30am in those two zones? What is the daily cap?
You can keep the Oyster and give it to a friend, or hang on to it until your next trip to London; the money is good until used, as long as the Oyster is used once every 24 months. If you want to return it for the £3 deposit, you can do so at the Tube station ticket office at LHR.
I'll keep it. Apparently I kept it last time, well, maybe I did.
