While I'm not one to complain about receiving ex-gratia miles I have to confess to feeling just a little bit miffed. A reply from BA explaining the cock-up or at the very least apologising for it, and an assurance that it won't happen on our return flight (which was the main thrust of my email to BA) would have made me feel much happier about the situation.

Also, is it reasonable of me to think that 10K miles for a second rate food service in First Class is just a little bit parsimonious, or should I just let this drop and be grateful that BA has made a gesture of some ex-gratia miles? I'd be grateful for comments from more experienced flyers than me.
^ that you got the miles.

Give it a couple of days (maybe a week) and wait and see about follow-up communication (like Dan72 says). If you haven't heard anything then, then you have a right to be miffed.
