Has anyone transferred SPG points for a flight from the US to Australia? We have enough SPG points for 2 airline tickets, which I'd like to book now, and then I'd like to book 2 additional tickets when I earn more SPG points. We prefer to fly out of San Diego.

I'm not sure which airline would be best for the transfer.

I see the SPG program with Qantas is ending on 8/15. I'm thinking one option is to transfer points for the 2 tickets with Qantas now... then do a transfer to one of the Qantas partner airlines (like AA) later for the other 2 tickets. Would that work?

I am also considering transferring SPG points for Hawaiian Airlines tickets because it would be nice to stop in Honolulu for a couple of nights on the way over to Australia.

Any other ideas? I have not yet traded SPG points for airline miles so I appreciate any help you can provide.
