Many premium cabins already have phones - but at very expensive rates.

I would like to have mobile access; I'm not planning on having an idle chat mid-Atlantic, but having been on aircraft where there were no phones, with something having gone seriously wrong with the travel arrangements, I really missed being able to call someone to get things sorted before I landed. I guess ensuring that all aircraft have a phone on board would be an alternative, but I presumed this question applies to all airlines in general, not all of which do.

It's going to happen anyway, then we can all look back and see what a quaint question it was in a few years time.

For those who don't like noisy talkers on the phone (me included) - how come 1-way conversational noise is more annoying than 2-way (ie overhearing both sides of the conversation) - is it just because we can only nosy in on half a conversation?
