I went through the form online as 2035 suggested (pretty good you can do alliance wide upgrades online ^) but it appears as though my booking class
isn't good enough.

Special upgrade terms of United

Upgrades are possible for flights operated by United (UA), not in the case of UA marketing flight numbers.

An upgrade is possible from Business Class booking classes C and D, as well as from Economy Class booking classes Y, B, M, H. For selected US domestic flights booking classes E, U, Q, V, W, S, T, K, L also apply. It is possible to upgrade to classes C, D, Y and B electronically. A paper certificate still has to be issued for upgrades to any other booking class.
For upgrades with United, paper certificates (valid for up to 12 months) for all booking classes (except from Business Class C, D and Economy Class Y, B, M, H) must be issued, so the booking must be made at least seven working days in advance. Express processing is also possible up to four working days before departure upon payment of a fee.
Now my ticket falls into the category of the bold portion. Does anyone know when a E, U, Q, V, W, S, T, K, L ticket would be eligible for upgrade? I didn't know if there was some hard fast rule like 2 class domestics only or something....

Thanks again
