You deserve better.
It's really never been that big an issue for me...as you can imagine, only asking 2-3x in 1500 nights stayed is not that much. I am sure if we needed it we could push but I am pretty self-sufficient and rarely need special accommodation.
I agree, however, that since Marriott top tier is much harder to reach than top tier in Hilton or Starwood, they really should show their elites a little bit more love. 500 points when I check in is hardly feelin' it.
