In cases like these, it doesn't hurt to call UA and recommend to the agent that they contact the fare desk. Sometimes those who establish the fares are not aware of competition, and if you're lucky they may drop the fare to match. Note that they do not ALWAYS do this, but it has happened to me before. And the fare change usually appears the next day.
I should clarify that they won't change the rate for you per se--but they will contact the rate desk. If you know they've been made aware about their "noncompetitiveness," it wouldn't hurt to wait a day and see if anything changes.
