If you're also in the BAEC, I find using the leather straps they hand out much better quality.

Luggage tags for hold baggage - yes
Luggage tags for carry-on baggage - why?
It's saved my life on a couple of occasions
- When I left my carry on bag on a train: I got a call the next day telling me it had turned up (At Bournemouth station... just how is beyond me!)
- When I turned up in a Tshirt, board shorts, and thongs at BKK. As the draggons marched and were about to chuck me out of the C checkin line, they glanced at the tag and turned on their heels
- When I was on a AKL-NAN, and a fellow FTer spotted a rack of tags on my bag, and helped me out when I was stuck for the night on Fiji.
