I find this to be an incredible problem. Its just inconsistent from property to property across all brands. You would think Marriott would dictate some standards but in reality I think its a function of the municipality codes of where the hotel in being built and the cheapness / generosity of the franchisee doing the construction.
I take Overland Park, KS as an example after 12 years of constant travel to all the Marriott's / Hilton's in the town. In the heart of tornado territory yet I've never seen cheaper and faster construction at the RI and SHS and Homewood Suites. If you are not on the top floor, you will clearly hear the guest above you just walking around. And the toilet flushing to the left and right in the SHS.
