I remember my dad's BA tags many years ago, which had the thick leather belt type attachment. They lasted through lots.
You'll probably become quite adept at attaching them : the tags are quite brittle and tend to fracture around the cord hole. One day you'll find you have just a cord dangling from your bag. I've lost 5 or 6 tags over the years.
