They werent happy about it either but they always moved to the working f/a jump seat in the front after take off. Thereby freeing the lav for use. Then before landing the off duty f/a returns to the lav seat and the working f/a takes back the front jump seat.
+1. I was sitting in the last row of an RJ a few years back and they pulled the jumpseat out from behind the last row for a FA heading home. After we took off she stowed the seat and helped the on duty FA with bev service, so we had full access to the lav. OP, I'm hoping that it was an off duty crew they put in the jumpseat on your flight, because it's a very big no-no to put a regular pax there, but in either case they shouldn't have barred access to the lav.
