This property (Renaissance) is more impressive and may be better for ORD (will update after getting there tomorrow) but Oak brook does have the golf course...
Thank you to everyone for this thread though; I booked this hotel on the recommendations here and they stood up well. Definitely the best for ORD!
Been to the two hotels mentioned here and yes, both are very good. The Renaissance O'Hare is also very nice.
I know this is a Marriott thread, but, believe it or not, the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace Inn is a smaller hotel located in a good walking neighborhood and often has good rates. It's more Boutique than BW. I stay there sometimes because one of our customers is located in that neighborhood and its the only hotel around. I know BWs can be hit or miss, but that one is a hit. If they got rid of the BW name, the owners could probably fill the place a double their present nightly rate.
DO NOT decide to go budget and stay at the FF in the city. It was home of one of the worst, worst, worst experiences I've ever had at a Marriott property. The people were rude. Or maybe just outright mean. The property was not well maintained. The word scary comes to mind. The structure, the upkeep, the cleanliness, the people hanging around the lobby.... Yep. Scary is the right word.
It was the ONLY hotel I could get a reservation at last year when I needed to be in Chicago at the last minute. All the other Marriott properties were on PM Guaranty override and all non-Marriott properties were booked. I stay at many FF throughout the country, so my expectations were not out of line - I knew this was not a FS. But I expected much, much better from a hotel that carries a Marriott brand name.
