I do because:
  • I thought the airlines ask for it, and if they ever enforce it I'd be set
  • I travel carry-on only, so it weighs 15kg or so at times, and I expect to be asked to check it sometime
  • At hotels you can flip the tag out, so the staff have less chance of mixing up your luggage (although I always look after my own)
  • It can act as a proxy proper Gold card when you want to hint to staff that you have a reasonable expection of something without being too explicit (not sure this has ever been useful!)
  • It is Gold and shiny, and nice to look at whilst having nothing else to do
