I cash checks at hotels ranging from JW to FF all the time, and have never been told no. Sometimes I get the push-back of not having a lot of money on hand, but I'm usually cashing small ($20) checks. Once, I got all $1 bills, but they spend the same.

I don't like to have much cash - no record of where I wasted money - and don't want to pay the bank fees to take a twenty out of an ATM.
