Please note that the OP has agreed to take a UK platinum credit card, which is free, and other than cash-back, has no benefits.

I'm not 100% familiar with UK Gold charge card benefits, but if similar to US, it's not worth it. You either travel a fair bit, and would benefit from platinum charge card (despite hefty fee) or not. Gold seems to carry few advantages over green.

OK, just had a look at the website: the main significant benefit is the travel inconvenience benefit (the purchase protection is offered by many free credit cards). If the OP travels a lot, it may pay for itself with one luggage delay.
