In these two threads from June it appears your questions were answered. I am not going to suggest that you should have used search as it took me a few attempts to find the threads. Even though they included posts of mine.

Use AA for CX award and international award travel tool/engine?

You do need to have a couple of premises when you begin
  • Even though there are awards on partners there may not be awards using AA miles. In fact there may not even be any awards available.
  • Unless you are very knowledgeable about all the routings of the different airlines an agent will be very helpful.
  • You may get the opposite. An agent who is not very knowledgeable or has not done very many complicated international oneworld or partner awards. (hence they will not know all the possible routings available)
If you need futher assistance after reading the two posted threads feel free to PM me.

Finally if you are only interested in one week for travel and one destination than calling is your best option and will be quicker than attempting to search. Being retired gives me greater flexibility and so the only restriction I put on destinations are events that may lure me to them.
magic111 - thank you for pointing me in the right direction (again).
The threads were informative and it helped to understand why I was not seeing CX inventory on QF. I think the BA site is the best I have tried so far.
What do you think about KVS?
My itinerary will be open jaw and over 3 months long (another problem as I will have to re-issue the tickets without losing the original outbond flight....).
From everything I see and read I will have to use JL to Asia 2 as CX is almost impossible to land (2 U tickets) - I could do worse than JL.
BTW, what does "PM me" stand for - as you see I am very new to this.
