I don't find it that hard. I rarely unpack on business trips, so it's a matter of throwing a bundle of clothes back in my bag, zippering it up, carrying it to the car, carrying it back out that evening, and checking in one more time. I still drive back and forth, I still walk back and forth, etc. Oh, I guess I need to unzipper my bag again at the new hotel and toss my bag on the bathroom counter

How are you going to buy status? You can't buy extra nights - a reservation without actually checking and and out doesn't get you credit, even though you have to pay for the no-show. Some airlines now have status purchases, but I don't believe SPG does. I suppose you could make reservations, hire someone to pretend to be you, create a fake ID for that person at check-in, etc.m, but that seems harder than hopping

btw, I'll re-qualify for PLT tomorrow with 18 total nights.
