I know, cross posting is against the rules, but this is urgent! Maybe in this forum more people are familiar with Chennai: A friend of mine is flying into Chennai airport (LH 4743) late at night and her onward flight is not until the following day at midday. She has not been to India before and so is concerned about trying to find accomodation in an unfamiliar place late at night.
She is wondering whether she is best to stay put in the airport or whether it is sensible to book a hotel with airport trasnfer.
If you have any ideas that would be great, she is on a budget!
She should definitely book a hotel in advance. No exceptions. It is too risky for a lone female traveller to even think about staying in the airport or trying to find accommodation when she gets there. I lived in Chennai for over a year so have been through the airport more times than I care to remember and I am still a regular visitor ,so trust me, I know what I am talking about.
I always stay at the Park Sheraton Hotel and Towers. Takes about 15 minutes to get from the airport at that time of night and their private car service is always reliable, they will have a driver waiting outside with a name board. They also have a couple of reps posted at the airport in case of any problems. All the LH crew stay at this hotel as well.
