It ranks UA as 8th out of 9 for the "stingiest" airlines relating to fees charged. But the justification for ranking it below AA and NW appears to be based on the incorrect assumption that UA charges for same day standby. Here is the blurb about UA:
"8. United:
A similar package — $15- $25 checked-bag fees, $150 to make flight changes. Plus an extra wrinkle: the highest standby fee in the business: $75 if you want to fly stand-by on a different flight the same day, a service that for years was free and now commonly costs $50 on several airlines."
In reality, AA, NW, and UA should all be #6. You can guess who #9 is.
For those that don't know, it costs $75 to CONFIRM a same day change and you must request it within 3 hours of the flight. But to simply stand by at the airport for another flight there is no charge.
