I had a similar problem with cigarette smoke at the RC-Georgetown a couple of weeks ago. In addition to having unilaterally changed my reservation and not having a suite available, the King room they put me in on the first night smelled strongly of cigarette smoke despite being a non-smoking room. I was transferred to a suite the following night, which is what I should have had all along. I was plainly very upset about the whole thing, but all I got by way of service-recovery was a bottle of wine (relatively cheap chardonnay) and a selection of cheeses on the first night. Thankfully, no such problems at the RC-Singapore two months ago.
Why is it that the RC in Singapore is the only place your last name is pronounced properly? Guessing by your screenname, is it "Ng"? I suppose I can see how folks in some places might have trouble pronouncing that correctly, and that Singaporeans would be inclined to get it right. There are a good number of Ng's in Boston, where I grew up, but I couldn't be sure I know how to pronounce it correctly.
