As I remarked following a recent flight when I was in row 1 and a friend was in row 13 so I had cause to go back there, the difference between the nose noise and any other part of the plane is very marked. Even the UD is much louder than the nose.
I would always try for the upper deck - any seat, mainly due to less noise and it feels more private (given that the seating is only 2-2).
On a daytime flight I would agree. But I also agree with
Ian T that a tall passenger really wants some extra legroom over the standard CW seat when sleeping a lot.
The larger CW cabin is not very private.
I agree it is not nice. For now I will stick with 14K. I've had roughly equivalent seats on a 3-class 777 (both 4A and 3K) and found them very acceptable, although not as good as the best UD seats.
Of course, if I get moved to row 2, and am therefore really able to follow your advice, I shan't complain.
