perhaps the aspirations of SLC to have international service will motivate them to lengthen a runway.
There are speed ratings for aircraft tires as for car tires. There are also limitations to brake loading. Sometimes a longer runway just doesn't do it, and the aircraft needs to be made lighter, through offloading passengers, cargo, or fuel (and conducting a fuel stop along the way).
Hot & high is why SLC has just about zero chance for non-stop service to Asia & Oceania.
