No, you can use United miles on Star Alliance awards. You need to claim a Star Alliance (and not United) award because you have Air Canada in the itinerary.
And yes, only 40,000 for business class domestic on United, and first class on two-class on United and first class on domestic Air Canada YVR-JFK.
