Delta will not divert any of their aircraft to a station like MSP or MKE except for an emergency situation that requires them to use the next available airport.

Not always. Look at the B767 last week from ATL-PHX that diverted to LIT. The station didn't have a towbar to push-back and passengers were stranded overnight.
