One would think, but travel insurance (AIG Travelguard) specifically states that cancellation due to mechanical reasons are not covered under the max $300 cancellation/delay. If it were due to weather they would compensate you up to $300 for a new ticket to get you to your destination. The situation would qualify for the $100 a day reimbursement for funds spent to accommodate you until your rescheduled flight departs (in addition to whatever compensation the airlines gives).
