Definitely worthwhile. 1P IMO is the biggest threshold in the elite ranks at United. As others have mentioned, Exit Rows, 100% Mileage Bonus, Star Gold Status, Lounge Access, Improved Standby Opportunities etc. etc. are all worthwhile benefits over 2P.
