I have had this happen a few times domestically especially DTW-PBI where very elderly folks are sitting in Exit Row seating and clearly would a be problem in an emergency. NWA has been when compared to KLM on its AMS flights too at least on my most recent two flights. My KLM metal flights always have a more laid back feel, but the take-off/landing rules were rigorously applied! On my recent -- AMS-DTW (early July) on NWA metal--- I was in WBC upper deck [747-4] two issues stuck out:

1). Pilots were **not** closing the cockpit door when they used the rest rooms and when they were getting things out of the crew sleeping quarters, THIS REALLY SURPRISED ME! The cockpit door was left ajar on at least two occasions, very, very short time to be sure, but still..... sheeze given post- 9/11 issues you would think that at least this would be issue one, *on every single flight* domestic or not, no?

2). We landed in DTW and at least 1/4 of WBC pax had their seats in some version of recline position, window shades were down over exit rows. One FA upstairs and she was not exactly on the ball most of the flight and clearly, not a happy camper either (I have a lot of empathy for folks that work hard at NWA and got jammed up, but still my seat---as was the case with others in WBC *was not* an "upgrade" or some version thereof, but a full pay seat....a smile once in awhile by an FA could not hurt). Still, point 1 above was the most disconcerting--even stunning example of laxness given current events in the world.
