My 8 year old and I are flying from PDX - MCO on May 30 for a week. I am contemplating the best way to upgrade us- it is starting to sound like using miles for first class tickets will be the best way to go. I do not fly to MCO so I am not sure what the chances are of getting upgraded on that flight. I am down to a lowly sm now so I have to wait until 12 hours if I go the cheapest route. I don't want to end up with my daughter in first while I am in the back. Is anyone else experienced with upgrading this leg?

Still thinking of burning all of my miles and starting over on AA- I go back and forth on that.
