Just an update to my experience of LHR-TBS, sort of a mileage run really.
Outbound

Flew out Friday 25th booked into Economy but used a GUV with no problems.

Had a problem exiting the lounge due to BAA idiocy. They give incoming passengers priority (they cross the corridor from the outbound) and we were not allowed to cross as we would ‘mix’ with them. “Security” at its stupidest.
Ignorant BAA staff said it was our fault for not leaving the lounge earlier. I left when called so not my fault. Had to get the lounge staff involved to ensure we did not miss the flight.

Pushback only 6 minutes overdue at 21:06.
Unfortunately some passengers in Y decided they did not want to fly (I believe they were being deported) so caused “A strange smell in the cabin- [Fire]” so we returned to stand. Three passengers ejected with the help of three large LHR policemen. Finally got away again at 22:30
A320 was again only 5 in C with Y being about 60% full.

Service was good though my first choice of appetizer was not available. I was sat in 4F so further forward may get you the full choice.
I had the pear with feta cheese, Salmon steak and blackcurrant mouse.

There was champagne and two selections of both red and white. I chose the French red. Because of our late departure I was still eating at midnight.
Food photos.

The on board entertainment was not working (I was told they had not loaded the headsets) so we were allowed a £50 choice from duty free.
I left my choice too late so did not really have a great deal to choose from, so I opted for the 400 cigarettes, not complaining though!
TIP
If this happens to you then choose early!

Seat was OK to cat nap which I did for the last two hours of the flight.

Due to our late departure we landed at 06:15 local (+3 hrours to London).I had luggage in the hold which took 20 minutes to appear on the belt.

The airport is shiny and new and almost deserted. ATM machines in departure lounge took my Nationwide debit card. A couple of exchange places there too. US $ and Euro are accepted as cash as well as Visa credit card, though not that widespread.

I had decided earlier to give the train a go and found I was in time for one of the few departures. The station is more shiny and newer (and as deserted) as the airport and is a very short walk from the terminal. Fare was 2 Gel (1.00 GBP=2.77940 GEL) so about 60p and we left on time. Train was very old and rickety and moved at a gentle pace. I was banking on the fact that the only stop was Vagzlis Moedani (main railway station) but it did stop at an earlier station.(Samgori). My destination station was not signed so when everyone got off so did I ! Journey was about 25 minutes.

Found the metro next door and caught the ‘tube’ to Avlabari
You have to buy a token from the office (cost 40 Tetri [0.40 Gel]) insert this into the barrier (under the watchful eye of the barrier “guard”) and then at the bottom of the escalator there is another booth with another employee at her post. Assumingly her job is to catch no payers after being altered by the first “guard” Not air conditioned but basic cars and English signs on the Metro walls. Announcements are made in Georgian.

Tbilisi
Interesting city, with mainly friendly people. Some beggars but none were aggressive or persistent.
I caught the marshrukta from Okriba (near Didube Metro) to Mskheta Fun way to meet the locals and only 1GEL each way.Journey is about 30 minutes.

Inbound
Monday 28th July
Train to the airport is not an option due to very limited service and indecipherable ticket office at the main station, so I ordered a taxi. Cost 20 Gel from Avlabari, should be about 25 Gel from downtown. Uneventful journey, took about 20 minutes.

Check in was as per Swanhunters experience. My return ticket was in Business so no need to use a GUV.

Lounge is very small. Has one PC with free internet access, definitely no showers.

Same crew on the way back and pushback was on-time with no shenanigans. Food was good, Red caviar the only choice for appetizer, Georgian chicken in milk and a lemon Cheesecake..
Food photos.
Crew did not seem to know what food they had on board so it was pot luck for mains and dessert.Champagne and red wine again.
In flight entertainment was working (shame!) but no really good films TBH.

Arrived on time, but due to BAA incompetence (again) we all had to wait 90 minutes for the bags!

Overall:Enjoyed the food and service both way, BAA incompetence means travel with cabin luggage only.
I agree with Swanhunter Tbilisi could be a fun award destination for a long weekend.
