The airport authorities have zero authority over the issue. You can complain all you want, but there is nothing they can do about it. There is also no way that the TSA or other security folk following the TSA guidelines for service to the USA are going to officially differentiate between stuff brought from home and stuff in an amenity kit.

If they do look past it then that's great for you, but it doesn't change the fact that the policy is what it is.
