If you (or your company) is really, really paranoid about this issue - and depending on where you travel (China), you should be - I'd suggest either setting up a terminal server or Citrix server, get one of the new 'dumb-terminal' laptops and do a remote session to your server at home. No trace of anything will be left on the machine you're carrying.
Another option is getting a plain old cheap laptop ($499), have it boot to a flash drive so no traces of your activities sit on the disk, and use something like Go-To-My-Pc to access your home computer from abroad.
